How KUMI was born: the story woven into each garment

When we talk about custom sportswear, we often think only of performance. But at KUMI Tailor Design, each garment tells a story. A story that began almost ten years ago, when Gustavo Peralta, its founder, decided to leave his graphic design studio behind to build something of his own: a Mexican brand that combined a passion for triathlon, distinctive design, and high-quality textiles.

Learn the full story of how KUMI was created on our YouTube channel .

From designer to creator of sports identities

It all started when Gus, a graphic designer by profession, met Olympic triathlete Eligio Cervantes and designed everything from the logo to the uniforms for his new team. The impact was immediate: other athletes began requesting custom designs. But they didn't just want a digital file. They wanted the finished garment .

That was the first click. Gus noticed a gap in the market: high-performance activewear, but with custom design and real attention to detail. He researched the textile world, saved up for machinery, and with no prior experience in clothing, launched KUMI.

We design what athletes want to wear

KUMI isn't just another brand. Its uniqueness lies in the way it works closely with athletes and coaches . Through a close and flexible process, each uniform reflects the identity of its wearer. "We create sports identities," says Gus.

Each garment is designed to meet real needs: body-hugging cuts, fabrics with ventilation in critical areas, special versions for each discipline or climate. And if a coach needs something that isn't available in the catalog, they develop it from scratch.

Italian textiles, Mexican hands

A fundamental part of KUMI's quality lies in the materials. They use cutting-edge Italian textiles: water-repellent fabrics with sun protection, quick drying, and intelligent compression. The garments are 100% made in Mexico, with expert hands and artisanal attention.

This combination of European innovation and local talent allows us to compete with international brands without losing our Mexican soul.

From the team to the showcase: the evolution to e-commerce

For many years, KUMI operated solely through direct contact. But they recently launched their online store to reach any triathlete looking for a collection of stylish, high-tech, and good-vibe apparel.

Now, anyone can purchase a high-performance trisuit or a customized garment from home, or visit the showroom in Mexico City. All with the same commitment as always.

What's next: collaborations and fresh proposals

Gustavo is clear that this is just the beginning. His dream is to continue creating inspiring clothing. Today, he's already working on collaborations with athletes, artists, and visual artists, such as the "Be Wild for a While" collection, inspired by the energy of Kona and designed with triathlete Amalia.

Every print, every seam, every pad is designed to make those who wear KUMI feel powerful, seen, and part of something bigger .
